Minor in Education

Available to all residential undergraduate students on Mercer’s Macon campus, the Teacher Education minor helps prepare students for a career in education without the requirements of teacher certification. The Teacher Education minor is ideal for students who are not majoring in education and who plan to continue their education and earn a Master’s degree.

Program requirements

Through a combination of courses selected by the student, the Teacher Education minor equips and prepares future teachers to study their field of interest combined with education-based courses.

  • 18 semester hours, six of which should be at or above the 300-level
  • Courses must be from a selection of unrestricted courses (any six courses from the 100- or 200- level EDUC courses, plus two courses from any 300-level EDUC courses (such as EDUC 356, 360, 378, or 379)

Tift College of Education has exposed me to wonderful professors who are passionate about education and preparation of future educators. Tift has also placed me in diverse schools to observe, assist, and teach gaining invaluable experience during my practicum and student teaching placements. Because of Tift College, I feel prepared to lead my own classroom well-versed in pedagogy and cultural awareness.
