Special Consideration Program for the College of Education

Mercer University’s Tift College of Education Special Consideration Program provides both Education and non-Education students with professional learning opportunities to advance their initial Georgia teaching certificate to a Level 5 or enter the profession as a Mercer-prepared professional P-12 teacher with a Level 5 certificate.

Program benefits

  • Gain special consideration for one of our education graduate programs within two years of completing your undergraduate degree at Mercer
  • Take advantage of the Double Bear Scholarship for the entire length of the degree program, $2,000 scholarship for full-time enrollment or $1,000 scholarship for half-time enrollment.
  • Receive an application fee waiver to easily complete the application process

Eligibility criteria

Requirements for Education majors

  1. Applying to one of Mercer’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs within two academic years of completing a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) degree
  2. Completion of at least 32 credit hours of undergraduate coursework at Mercer University, to include 30 credit hours in the College of Education
  3. Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at Mercer University and in all Education courses, with a grade of C or higher in each Education course
  4. Application to the M.Ed. program no later than: May 1 for Summer, August 1 for Fall Session I, and October 1 for Fall Session II. Late applications will be considered based on eligibility and space availability.

Requirements for non-Education majors

  1. Applying to one of Mercer’s Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) programs within two academic years of completing a bachelor’s degree in a non-Education major
  2. Completion of at least 32 credit hours of undergraduate coursework at Mercer University
  3. Maintenance of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at Mercer University, with a grade of C or higher in all major-specific courses
  4. Application to the M.A.T. program no later than: May 1 for Summer, August 1 for Fall Session I, and October 1 for Fall Session II. Late applications will be considered based on eligibility and space availability.
