Empower and inspire others in your school, system, and community
Mercer University’s Tier II Specialist in Education in Educational Leadership (P-12) is designed to meet the growing demand for highly-skilled school leaders in Georgia. Individuals will be prepared to take the next step in their professional development and become transformational leaders in Georgia’s schools and communities.
This program supports current educational leaders through the development of leadership theory and practical skills to advance within educational leadership. Diverse field experiences throughout the program put theory into practice and prepare leaders to support the needs of faculty, staff, students, and the community. Mercer’s faculty supports our students throughout the program, helping them to become transformational leaders.
The Ed.S. in Educational Leadership is aligned with the latest national standards in educational leadership, as established by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) and in accordance with the standards established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). This degree represents Tier Two of the Educational Leadership structure in Georgia, and those holding this level of certification are eligible for any leadership position at the building or district level. The program is also aligned to the Leader Keys Effectiveness System and the Georgia Leadership Standard Assessment.
Continuing leading and transforming
This program is designed for those who have completed the Tier I Educational Leadership certification or the equivalent (a valid GaPSC-issued Standard Professional or PL certificate in Educational Leadership) and are employed in a current leadership position.
The 30 credit-hour program includes 750 clock hours of rigorous, performance-based clinical field experiences that provide significant opportunities for candidates to synthesize, practice, develop, and apply the knowledge, skills, and disposition identified in the standards. Upon completion of the program and obtaining passing scores on the GACE content assessment, those holding Level 6 certification are eligible for all leadership positions at the building and district levels.
