Educational Leadership Certification

The Educational Leadership certification program prepares transformational leaders outside of the classroom. For those not looking to add an additional degree, Mercer University offers a non-degree, certification-only option to prepare students for Tier One Educational Leadership Certification (Level 5) eligibility in Georgia. Students learn to further leadership skills and attain professional growth in the field of education. 

Non-Degree, Tier One Educational Leadership 

To be eligible for the Tier One initial certification program, you must hold a valid Level 5 Educator Certificate and have at least three years’ experience in the school system.

 Applicants must submit:

  • Online application
  • $25 application fee (waived for current Mercer students and Mercer graduates)
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended:

Official transcript(s) from an institution may be sent electronically using one of the following services: EScript, Docufide or Parchment.

  • Copy of current Georgia (level 5 or higher) educator certificate
  • Official GRE scores (no older than 5 years)
  • Certificate of Completion for GACE Ethics for Educational Leaders Assessment – Program Entry (370)
  • Current vita or résumé
  • Two official letters of recommendation
  • Signed Principal Verification Form
  • Narrative of career and academic goals

The Tier One Educational Leadership program is offered at Mercer’s Atlanta, Henry and Macon locations. All program coursework is delivered in a flexible, hybrid format combining on campus meetings with on-site clinical practice hours. Students are admitted three times a year for the Fall (August), Spring (January) and Summer (May) terms, which provides students the flexibility and convenience to continue working while earning their degree at their pace.

Program requires a minimum enrollment for each location and start date to begin a cohort.
