Mercer University’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Secondary Education in designed to expand professional knowledge and of current grades 6-12 educators. Earning an M.Ed. from Mercer allows current educators to sharpen their skills in key performance areas and strengthen their understanding of students, thus enhancing the classroom experience. Individuals will select a content area of focus from language arts, mathematics, science, or social science. Upon program completion, educators with a Level 4 certification in Secondary Grades Education will be eligible to upgrade their teaching certificate to a master’s level (Level 5) upon program completion. Individuals may also pursue up to two endorsements as part of the program in the following areas:
- Autism
- Coaching
- Computer Science
- English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
- Gifted
- Mathematics (K-5)
- Online Teaching
- Reading
- Science (K-5)
- STEM
Designed for busy and working adults
Mercer’s M.Ed. in Secondary Education may be completed fully online or in a blended combination of online and in-person classes on Mercer’s Atlanta campus. Opportunities to make personal connections with faculty and classmates are offered across all formats, including the online option. Classes meet in eight-week and 16-week terms, and students may complete the program in 16 months.

- Understanding how culture, students’ approaches to learning, and exceptionalities impact students
- Creating learning experiences that make content meaningful for students in grades 6-12
