Endorsements

SR Education 2019 Best Online Colleges GeorgiaEndorsements are training for certified teachers who want to add expertise in specific areas. Students who hold a bachelor's degree or higher and a Level 4 or higher certificate may apply for an endorsement program. 

NOTE: Endorsement courses are fully online; however, candidates will be required to complete a field-based component.

 

The Autism endorsement is available to certified teachers who hold a valid Level 4 teaching certificate. Successful completion of the three course sequence with a GPA of at least 3.0 and with no grade below B will lead to eligibility for an in-field Autism Endorsement. This endorsement will provide the certified teacher with knowledge and competencies to work with students on the autism spectrum. 

The courses required for the endorsement are: 
  • EDUC 658. Development and Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • EDUC 659 Behavior Management and Applied Behavior Techniques for Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • EDUC 660. Learning Environment, Instruction and Assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorders

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the Autism Endorsement program may choose to enter the program as a non-degree, post-baccalaureate student or they may choose to incorporate the endorsement classes within one of the graduate degree programs, either the M.Ed. in early Childhood Education or the Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education. Enrollment in either M.Ed. or EdS program requires applicants hold or be eligible for an induction level certificate or higher in an appropriate field (such as Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Education/Special Education, or Birth-Kindergarten).

  • Completed application for admission
  • Application fee — Please include the $25 application fee ($50 for international applicants) in the form of a check or money order made payable to Mercer University. Do not send cash. The Coaching endorsement is available to certified educators who hold a valid Level 4 or higher renewable certificate. Educators with leadership, life, or service certificates must have held a professional teaching certificate. Successful completion of the two-course sequence with a GPA of at least 3.0 with no grade below B and all portfolio requirements will lead to eligibility for an in-field Coaching Endorsement. This endorsement will provide the certified teacher with knowledge to utilize performance assessment data to guide, mentor, and lead a variety of teachers and educators, including individuals completing student-teaching requirements, new teachers, classroom teachers, and individuals seeking educational leadership positions.

The courses required for the endorsement are: 

  • EDUC 677 Coaching Fundamentals
  • EDUC 678 Advanced Coaching

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the Coaching Endorsement program may choose to enter the program as a non-degree, post-baccalaureate student, or they may choose to incorporate the endorsement classes within an appropriate graduate degree program. As part of the Ed.S. in Teacher Leadership program, students will complete the necessary requirements to earn an in-field coaching endorsement. Enrollment in the Ed.S. in Teacher Leadership program requires applicants to hold a valid Level 5 or higher certificate in an appropriate teaching, leadership, or service field.

  • EDMT 677: Number Sense and Algebra in ECE
  • EDMT 678: Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis in ECE
  • EDUC 679: Mathematics Content Pedagogy
For all K-5 Math Endorsement applicants, the following admission criteria apply:
  • Level 4 certificate in Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Math (4-8), Special Education/General Curriculum (P-5), or other Special Education fields with a core academic content concentration in math.
  • A minimum of one year of certified teaching experience.
  • A minimum grade of C in at least two math content courses in undergraduate or graduate school.

The ESOL endorsement is available to certified teachers who are seeking or hold a valid Level 4 teaching certificate in any field. Successful completion of the three-course sequence will lead to eligibility for an in-field endorsement. The ESOL endorsement sequence may be completed in a non-degree status or as electives within a teacher preparation program. 

The courses required for the endorsement are:

  • EDUC 618 Issues of Diversity: Language, Cognition, & Culture
  • EDUC 646 Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

The Reading Endorsement is available to any teacher holding a valid Level 4 teaching certificate in any field. Successful completion of the three-course sequence of study will lead to eligibility for an in-field endorsement in reading and will provide the certified teacher with strengthened and enhanced competencies for teaching reading and literacy at the prerequisite certification level. 

The courses required for the endorsement are: 
  • EDUC 687: Research Theory: Research & Best Practices in ECE Reading
  • EDUC 647: Preventing, Diagnosing, and Correcting Literacy Problems
  • EDUC 662: Clinical Practicum (Spring)

The Tift College of Education offers an endorsement in STEM for certified teachers who hold a valid Level 4 teaching certificate. Successful completion of the three-course sequence with (a no grade below B) will lead to eligibility for an in-field STEM Endorsement. Candidates who complete this course will achieve a deeper understanding of applied STEM processes as well as engage in field experience.

The courses required for this endorsement are:

  • ESTM 664: STEM Thinking
  • ESTM 668: Research and STEM Design
  • ESTM 674: Applied STEM Processes and Field Experience
