4+1 Bridge Program

Mercer University offers the opportunity for eligible students to earn a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree in either Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education, or P–12 Education over the course of approximately five years of full-time study.

In the 4+1 Bridge Program in Education, students complete three phases of study:

  • Phase 1: Beginning study for undergraduate students
    Before your junior year
    Before admission to the 4+1 Bridge Program
  • Phase 2: Advanced study in M.A.T. coursework for undergraduate students
    During the junior and/or senior year
    After admission to the 4+1 Bridge Program
  • Phase 3: Graduate study for graduate students
    After completion of the Mercer undergraduate degree
    After admission to the 4+1 Bridge Program

4+1 Bridge Program requirements

The 4+1 Bridge Program in Education is available to Mercer students who:

  • Have earned either junior class standing or at least 90 course credit hours
  • Have earned a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 or higher
  • Have completed the online, self-paced “GACE Educator Ethics Assessment” module
  • Have completed a no-fee, streamlined application to the 4+1 Bridge Program in Education
