Cherie Dennis is the 2022 Georgia Teacher of the Year and serves as an ex-officio member of the State Board of Education. In her twelfth year of teaching, she serves as a teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at Hesse K-8 School in Savannah and was selected in 2021 as the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Teacher of the Year.
Cherie holds a bachelor’s degree in Japanese and a minor in teaching from Georgetown University, a master’s degree in East Asian Studies from Stanford University, and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She also holds a specialist degree in Teacher Leadership from Mercer University. Before her career in teaching, Ms. Dennis worked in advertising for Saatchi & Saatchi and DDB Worldwide.
