Meenakshi Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Science Education in Tift College of Education. Her work centers around science teacher education and students’ learning of science in K-12 classrooms. She specifically focuses on inquiry-oriented science teaching as aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and STEM education. 


She has five years of experience teaching science and chemistry at K-12 level. She has been closely working with pre-service and in-service teachers at pre-K -12 level from last 8 years in various capacities, including, teaching science and integrated STEM methods courses, online courses in science and STEM education and as a university supervisor.


Her research centers on teaching and learning science and integrated STEM. She specifically focuses on inquiry-oriented, STEM and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) aligned learning environments from preschool- 12 grades. Her research involves helping pre-service and in-service teachers develop an understanding of teaching practices and scientific practices that productively engage students' in scientific sense-making. Other interests include educational technology, science teaching and learning in international contexts, science curriculum and assessment development, and educational policy.


She is an active member of various professional organization such as NARST (National association for research in science teaching and learning) and CIES (Comparative and international education society).
